About

Psychotherapy for those who want to find the calm in the midst of the storm

Hello and welcome! I’m glad you’re here. Please make yourself comfortable and feel free to take a look around :) My name is Amanda and I am the owner and operator of Calm Seas Group. I am a licensed clinical social worker practicing physically in Colorado and via Telehealth in Florida. I have over 10 years of experience in the field of social work, and 35 years experience with this thing called life. As a member of the helping profession I personally understand the stress experienced when we care for the mental and physical well-being of others, placing our own needs on the back burner. I work with clients who are feeling overwhelmed from taking care of everyone else, with folks who have never learned how to place their needs first, and with people like myself who never learned how to be compassionate toward ourselves. I naturally lean toward helping and supporting those around me. As an Enneagram 2 and ENFP, I gravitate toward others and their journeys. I deeply understand the need and desire that people have to feel understood, loved, validated and safe. I work hard to provide that. I also appreciate the levity that humor can bring along the way. My therapy style is warm and interactive. I believe in treating all folx with respect, sensitivity, and compassion, and I do not believe in using stigmatizing labels. For that reason, I do not accept insurance. When insurance is used for counseling, the treatment has to be considered “medically necessary.”  This means “diagnoses”, “health records”, and “justification for treatment”. Most people who come to see me are not mentally ill and should not have a diagnosis — they are simply struggling with relationship issues. In the future, animal assisted therapy will be a modality I can employ. For now, Pepper and Tito are training how to be the best pups they can be. Water has always had a way of helping me make sense of the world and allowed me to come to terms with the ebbs and flows of life. Maybe you feel like a boat in the open ocean as a storm is approaching, or perhaps even more apt, an island on a collision course with a hurricane. My hope is that after working together you will be able to find the ability to calm the seas within you, even in the midst of impending chaos. Our clinical work will be focused on helping you work toward changing your thoughts, practicing acceptance, mindfulness, and holding space for the belief that your current situation will improve. I will tailor our dialog and treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs. It takes strength and courage to put in the time and effort to cultivate a happy and fulfilling life. I applaud you as you take the initiative to put in this hard work. When you are ready to take that step, I am here to support and empower you as we process through what is going on in your life. I look forward to journeying with you!
